Croeso Hwlffordd

Croeso teams are working with Hiraeth Hope in West Wales to respond to the Syrian refugee crisis in a civilised sustainable way - with human faces, not beaurocracy. Hiraeth Hope is a member of Citizens Cymru/ Citizens UK, working with the Home Office.

Croeso Hwlffordd’s role is to prepare for, and to settle, two Syrian refugee families from the refugee camps in Lebanon into the Haverfordwest area in accordance with the Home Office initiative of Local Community Sponsorship, which will first require the approval of Pembrokeshire County Council.

The group was established in November 2016 by local people coming together with an agreed aim, this being to settle Syrian refugee families into the Haverfordwest area, for them to be happy and gain their independence from the group as time goes on. Initially, at least for the first year, the group will support them physically, mentally, spiritually and financially to the best of the group’s ability.

Croeso Hwlffordd is made up of people from all walks of life, people from various faith groups and of no faith, but having one thing in common - a compassion for the displaced Syrian families and the desire to do something practical to help alleviate their suffering.

Croeso Hwlffordd needs to raise £9000 per family, and so is planning a series of local fundraising events such as coffee mornings, concerts, curry nights etc. The group is looking into a number of different ways of on-line giving and also applying to become a registered charity, which will give the organisation more credibility and allow them to claim Gift Aid where appropriate

Whilst we have a core team in place, we would be pleased to welcome new volunteers to help with fundraising, the preparation/organisation before any families can be accepted, and also a lot of befriending and follow up after they get here!
